Logo Design for Mozzie Shields

The aim of this concept was to create a logo that communicates protection, research and community involvement in a clean and approachable way. Rather than relying on highly technical or medical imagery, the design combines familiar symbols in a simple, memorable mark that is suitable for both the general public and scientific audiences.

The result is an identity that reflects the collaborative nature of the project while remaining versatile across digital platforms, educational resources and public awareness campaigns.

Concept 1: Logo Design for Mozzie Shields

This concept centres around a shield, representing protection, public health and the shared effort to reduce the spread of mosquito-borne diseases. The mosquito sits at the centre of the design, with the DNA strand reinforcing the research and genomics that underpin the project.

A key feature of the icon is the use of positive and negative space. The left side of the shield has an almost X-ray-like appearance, revealing the research and scientific investigation happening behind the scenes. The right side forms the outer structure of the shield, symbolising protection and the practical outcomes of that research. Together, they represent the journey from scientific discovery to healthier, better-protected communities.

Concept 2: Logo Design for Mozzie Shields

This variation integrates the shield directly between the words Mozzie and Shields, creating a stronger connection between the project name and the symbol itself.

The balanced layout keeps the logo clean and easy to recognise while allowing the shield to become the focal point. It works particularly well across websites, educational material and presentations where a wider horizontal format is preferred.

Concept 3: Logo Design for Mozzie Shields

This version presents the shield as a standalone emblem, giving the project a distinctive icon that can be used independently across social media, signage, profile images and promotional material.

The circular format creates a sense of unity and community while framing the shield as a recognisable symbol for the project. Over time, this standalone mark has the potential to become an instantly identifiable representation of Mozzie SHIELDS and its mission.

The concept has been intentionally kept clean and timeless. By combining the shield, mosquito and DNA into a single symbol, the design communicates the project's purpose without feeling overly clinical or complex.

The balance of positive and negative space reflects both scientific research and community protection—two ideas that sit at the heart of the project. The result is a logo that feels approachable enough for the public while maintaining the credibility expected of a research initiative.
